Blue Topaz

Topaz is a colorless or colored (in blue, light blue, dim, light green, light pink, dark red, yellow) variety of aluminum silicate that can be found in huge rough crystals, the biggest one, weighing no less than 117 kg was discovered in Ukrainian mines. The most famous noble polished topaz, 1680 karat worth still decorates the Portugal crown. Its name comes from Topazoz Islands in the Red Sea. The yellow variety of topaz from Brazil, when warmed up, it becomes pink. Even since old ages, topaz was thought to be a friendship stone and it was thought it had the gift of stopping hemorrhages, dementia and maniac states, being the good fortune and protective stone for those born in November or on a Sunday.

Description: yellow, green, blue, red, pink, brown, sometimes colorless natural aluminum silicate.

Colors: variant – colorless, white, grey, bluish, greenish, yellowish, pink, brown-yellowish. The most frequent is the sky-blue, and the rare one is the pink topaz. Many shades aren’t natural, but resulted from thermo treatment. 

Varieties: blue, green, rainbow, silver, sky blue. Natural blue topaz is extremely rare, most of them are white and submitted to thermal treatment. Blue topaz has many names: sky blue, London blue, Caribbean blue, Swiss blue. White topaz= slaves’ diamond

Note: yellow topaz can be mistaken with citrine, blue topaz can be mistaken with aquamarine, transparent topaz can be mistaken with diamond or zirconium.
