Citrine

Citrine is the yellow version of quartz. It appears in different color variants: from yellow to yellow-brown, yellow-lemon and yellow-orange. The name of ‘citrine’ comes from the Latin term ‘citrus’ which means ‘lemon’. In nature citrine is rarely found in comparison to amethyst and smoky quartz. Citrine can be easily mistaken with golden beryl, golden sapphire, yellow topaz, and yellow tourmaline. It protects persons born in the Gemini zodiacal sign, but it is also recommended to those who are Pisces, Taurus, Libra, Sagittarius, Virgo and Aries; the stone is unloaded in warm water and reloaded for a short period of time in the sun. The ‘mother rocks’ in which citrine can be found are the magmata rocks, pegmatite, hydro thermal and alpine lodes, and alluvial deposits. The most significant citrine producer is Brazil. Other citrine deposits are in USA, Russia and in smaller quantities in some European countries such as Spain, France and Scotland. It can be transformed into facets, engraved or sculpted.

Historically citrine was first found in Spain, Scotland, in France and Hungary and in other mines across the sea. Citrine exists nowadays due to the discovery of the fact that amethyst and smoky quartz turn yellow when burning. After this heat process, there remains this beautiful yellow gemstone which fascinates a lot of persons. In order to be immaculate and considered really precious, citrine has to be handled by a real specialist who knows how to transform it without letting any tracks of burning (natural yellow stones have a cloudy shade of yellow). Citrine has a hardness of 7 on Mohs’ scale (considered a rather soft stone, but resistant to scratches). It is the right stone in the autumn period: its delicate and mysterious yellow goes best with the mild autumn sun and wind.
