The tanzanite is a blue variant of gem. There is another pink variant too. Known from a long time in Tanzania, today it is one of the most spread precious stones. It firstly has been described in 1967 by the Indian prospector Manuel de Sanza, who initially thought that he discovered a deposit of sapphires. Later it has been described as a variety of “zoisir” by the German Gemology Society. The tanzanite becomes famous thanks to a necklace with five faceted faces, of an exceptional quality, which belonged to Elizabeth Taylor. The tanzanite makes the heart stronger and it is used for the psychic diseases.
The stone must be dissolved in warm water, than recharged for a short time at the sun. It protects those sign of the zodiac Sagittarius.

Color

The tanzanite can have many colors: blue, green-blue, blue-purple, brown, yellow very often, and it can also colorless.

Etymology

The first minerals have been found in 1967 in the north of Tanzania. The first stones were the transparent blue-violet forms. This mineral is actually discovered as a precious stone, at the New-Yorker jewelry maker Tiffany (firm built by Charles Lewis Tiffany), who names the mineral after the place where it has been found, because the name of zoisite is associated to the English word “suicide”.
